Популярный предлог «as to»

В английском языке очень популярен предлог «as to» в письменной и устной речи. Когда я учился в школе и вузе в Беларуси (1995-2012), то никогда о нём ничего не слышал. Может быть, ситуация изменилась? Значение предлога — «по поводу», «относительно», «касательно». При этом синонимические предлоги «about», «with respect to», «regarding» используются гораздо реже. Примеры:

I am confused as to what exactly to write in my essay.
She was uncertain as to which country to travel in summer.
My mother was puzzled as to who had broken the vase.

В этих примерах хотелось бы отметить структуру: «прилагательное/причастие + as to + вопросительное слово (реже существительное)» — as to why, as to who, as to where, as to what, as to how, as to whether). Предложения сложные (есть две части) в случае с вопросительным словом, но бывают и простые предложения, если после as to следует существительное. В такой структуре чаще всего и встречается этот предлог:

I am unsure as to whether I want to go to college next year.
I am disappointed as to the length of time allocated to complete the project.
We’re all excited as to what the future holds for us.

Этот предлог может стоять после существительного, и тогда конструкция чаще всего выглядит так: «существительное + as to + существительное (или вопросительное слово)»:

We met to discuss an agreement as to the terms of our exchange.
The article provided an analysis as to the impact of the economic crisis.
Capitalism depends on agreement as to the value of a dollar. (BBC)
Researchers have come up with two widely differing theories as to the cause [of the problem]. (BBC)
The jury made a final decision as to the winners of the competition.
There is no doubt as to the accuracy of the data (… as to the importance of her initiative).
Kevin told us the truth as to the reason of his divorce.
There is no evidence as to the effectiveness of the new medicine.
We need more proof as to the quality of standardized tests.
The scholar created a new hypothesis as to the extinction of the dinosaurs.
We have to find a better solution as to how to construct earthquake-resistant buildings in Indonesia.

Из газеты «Нью-Йорк Таймс»: Muddy footprints that trailed across the floor from the crib to an open window bore mute testimony as to how the baby had disappeared. — «Грязные следы на полу вели от кроватки к открытому окну и негласно свидетельствовали о том, как именно исчез ребёнок».

Этот предлог важно держать в голове при переводе с русского на английский. «У полиции есть новая информация о том, где произошло убийство» — «The police has new information as to where the murder occurred». Чтобы быть чуток более аутентичным.
