Knit one, purl one or speaking about knitting

In fact, it’s very useful for a Russian-speaking knitter to know the basics of the English knitting vocabulary. There are a lot of master classes in English which present wonderful knitted items one can knit. So if your English is good enough you’ll be able to follow any description of an English-speaking knitter.

What about various online translators or chat-bots, can’t they be helpful? Maybe yes, maybe no.

Let me show you an example. Once I saw a pattern which I liked very much. I tried it but there was something I couldn’t get untill I read the original description in English. It was obvious that there was a mistake in the translation made by a translation engine.

Have a look ( with my notes):

(The pattern is from Simple SKYP socks by Adrienne Ku. )

Let’s start! Study the list of words and expressions to speak about knitting as a hobby.

How much do you remember?

Well, it’s not easy to remember all the words if you are not a knitter, is it? Let’s try one more time. Match and remember the English words and expressions.

Go on, don’t give up. How much do you remember now?

And now speaking. Of course, speaking is the best thing when learning new words. By the way, among the pictures in your speaking exercise there are photos of two items that I knitted/crocheted myself. Can you find them? Let me know.
